Subject: ACT Election 2024: Support for Carers
—
Dear ACT Election candidates
I am writing to you as a carer, to ask you to support myself and the more than 58,000 unpaid carers in the ACT. We play a vital role in our community, yet we often go unrecognised and unsupported. Carers ACT has identified eight key policy areas that will make a real difference to our lives, including the introduction of a Carer Recognition Card, improved respite services, and better mental health support.
By advocating for these election asks on our behalf, you have the opportunity to ensure carers are recognised, valued, and included in the systems that affect them. Please stand with carers this election and commit to supporting the changes we need.
A Summary of the election asks are:
- Carer Recognition Card
- Review of the Mental Health Act
- Carer Directed Wellbeing and Respite Packages
- Land for a Carer Wellbeing and Respite Centre
- Young Carer Mentoring Program
- Carer Bereavement Counselling
- Integrated Mental Health Centre
- Dedicated Mental Health Prevention Funding
Together, these policies will help remove barriers, improve wellbeing, and provide much-needed recognition and support to carers in the ACT.
If you want to know more, contact Carers ACT via carer.advocacy@carersact.org.au
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
