Inquiry into the recognition of unpaid carers
An official Inquiry into the recognition of unpaid carers in Australia has been launched with a view to reform the Federal Carer Recognition Act. For the first time since the Act’s implementation in 2010, carers have the chance to suggest improvements to reshape the very legislation that was designed to acknowledge and support them.
There is strength in numbers and nothing more powerful than your stories. Carers ACT encourages you to share feedback directly to the Inquiry through a personal submission. We will be providing templates and how-to guides soon to help make this process as easy as possible for carers who choose to make a submission.
Carers ACT will also be writing a submission to the Inquiry to represent the voices of Canberra’s carers. We will be seeking your views to shape our submission in a variety of ways, including by inviting you to:
- Attend our July Carer Collective, to be held online and in-person.
- Complete our survey, to be sent out soon.
- Talk to staff at our existing Carers ACT group activities.
- Call the Advocacy team via reception on (02) 6296 9900 or email us at carer.advocacy@carersact.org.au.
Keep your eye on this website and on our page for updates on what is happening.
