Decades of caring: Our vision for the carers of Canberra
At Carers ACT, we have a vision. We want to make Canberra a place that truly, deeply and meaningfully care for carers. We envision a Canberra where being a carer doesn’t impact health, wellbeing, or financial security; and where Carers are part of the community, feel respected, heard and cared for.
Over two decades of caring, Shaw Building Group and Carers ACT have been working on making this vision a reality. Together, we’ve started a movement for change. A movement that actively works to help Carers ACT grow as an organisation, allowing us to provide more care for carers when and where they need it, supporting us to build a community that cares.
Now we want everyone to join this movement for change. We are calling on businesses, individuals, and the entire community to build on Shaw Building Group’s legacy and accelerate the impact of the work already done.

• Being a carer does not negatively impact health, wellbeing, or financial security.
• Carers have choices about their lives and lifestyles and are fully engaged in the community.

Every day, more than 58,000 Canberrans quietly provide unpaid care to people living with disability, chronic illness, mental illness, or are frail and aged. These carers are the lifeblood of our community, and Shaw Building Group’s unwavering commitment has enabled Carers ACT to provide services that meet carers’ needs in meaningful and flexible ways.
