Talking about your personal concerns with a counsellor can be helpful in clarifying issues, exploring your options, developing strategies and increasing your self-awareness. For some people, the process of telling their story to an unbiased and objective listener can be helpful in alleviating stress.
Some of the issues carers may seek counselling for include:
- Dealing with overwhelming and confusing feelings.
- Making sense of your experiences as a carer.
- Working out your own needs and solve problems.
- Managing conflict, stress and other emotional factors that make caring more difficult.
- Building resilience and coping with change.
- Improving your mental, emotional and physical well-being.
- Providing support after the caring role ends.
No matter what the concern is, our qualified counsellors can provide carers with professional face-to-face or telephone counselling.
My counsellor was wonderful. Her words and encouragement helped me understand what I was going through.
How Does It Work?
This is a short-term counselling program providing up to six sessions of counselling to carers. The counselling focuses on issues related to the caring role and does not address deep-seated problems requiring long-term therapy or address issues pre-dating the caring role.
Counselling is also available to people who have recently stopped providing care, or to carers seeking additional counselling after a break. Our counsellors can be accessed either by phone or face to face.
