The Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet recognises that carers are a vital part of Australia’s Care Economy and must be supported 🙌

In 2022 a Care and Support Economy Taskforce was established in the Prime Minister’s Department to establish a shared vision for the care and support economy and address challenges across sectors such as health, aged care, disability care, veterans’ care and childcare – with a strong focus on workforce availability against a growing demand for care services 📈

We have received a state-of-play brief from the Taskforce and are gratified that support for carers is included in the first goal of the Taskforce’s Vision 🎯

Originally, unpaid care was not considered in scope for the Taskforce but, partly as a result of Carers Australia’s advocacy and submissions from carers, they have been included in the work of the Taskforce ✅

The Taskforce winds up next month and will then transition to become the Care and Support Economy Reform Unit within the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet to continue this critical work 🏛️

It is our hope and expectation that this work, along with the National Carer Strategy currently in development, will result in significant improvements to carer support 🤝
