Nguluway Cultural Art Group
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family carers are invited to come together to meet new people and yarn. This fortnightly group explores a range of cultural activities such as painting, traditional making of Aboriginal artefacts, beading, music, bush tucker, story telling and outdoor activities.
Activities are planned by our Coordinators in consultation with group members. The group runs every second Friday from 11am to 2pm at our premises in Holt. Art materials and a light lunch is supplied.
Our first group project involved painting a beautiful set of canvas murals based on each carer’s Dreaming journey. These now hang in our Holt offices opposite our main meeting rooms.
The group is currently involved in their next project: painting a large group mural to hang in our outdoor courtyard. We look forward to seeing the amazing finished product!
Gatherings
From time to time we organise social activities where you can gather with other Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander carers to give you a break from caring by allowing you to relax and re-energise. These activities provide opportunities to learn more about Indigenous cultural practices, and involve activities such as singing, dancing, art, history and bush tucker.

Reconciliation Action Plan

RAP cover
On 31 May 2018 during our National Reconciliation Week 2018 BBQ lunch we launched our first Reconciliation Action Plan, which outlines a series of actions we are taking to actively and practically demonstrate respect and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their cultures.
We are working to ensure Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers have a voice in informing how carer services can best be shaped and delivered for their particular needs.
If you have some thoughts on how we can better support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander carers we would love to hear them! Ph 1800 052 222 or email carers@carersact.org.au
