There are other supports and services in the ACT and Southern NSW that may be helpful to carers.

Carer Education

CIT Skills for Carers | CIT Skills for Carers provides flexible training for family carers in the ACT. Training is available through short courses, workshops or on an individual basis. There are no fees for this training.

Dementia Australia | offer a range of short education courses around the topic of dementia

Arthritis ACT | A Carer’s Road to Wellbeing (Six Week workshop for carers)

Autism Spectrum Australia (Aspect) | Workshops to support families and carers of children on the Autism Spectrum

The Health Care Consumers Association (HCCA) |  runs free training courses to help people navigate the health system, learn about their healthcare rights and how to use their knowledge as a consumer to advocate for themselves and their community.

Imagine More | regularly host workshops for family carers of people with disability to help them enjoy a rich and meaningful life, with a deep level of belonging in their community.

idmh e-Learning 3DN provides free eLearning about intellectual disability to professionals, carers and consumers.

Assistive Technology

The ACT Independent Living Centre (ILC ACT) is a service of ACT Health that provides information on assistive technology.  The service is available to all ACT residents and visitors from surrounding regions of NSW.

Technical Aid to the Disabled ACT (TADACT) is a not-for-profit organisation that custom modify’s equipment to assist people with a disability. With a team of volunteers whose skills range from engineering to sewing and an occupational therapist on staff, TADACT is able to make a big difference in the lives of children and adults with a disability and older people by providing assistive equipment that problem-solves for the individual.


Community Bus (Community Services #1)  Narrabundah Community transport available for the frail, aged, younger disabled or their carers.

Community Transport (Communities@Work) Tuggeranong Assisting clients to have continued independence and confidence by transporting them to medical appointments, social and community activities and shopping centres.

Community Transport (Northside Community Service) Dickson Provides transport options to assist people to attend activities, undertake chores and participate in the community outside of the home.

Community Transport (Belconnen Community Service) Door to door community transport service and wheelchair accessible community bus service for eligible people requiring transport support to participate in everyday activities.

Community Transport (Woden Community Service)  Provides transport to older persons and people with a disability who live independently within the community, with or without the support of carers.

Community Transport (Communities@work) Gungahlin  | Assisting clients to have continued independence and confidence by transporting them to medical appointments, social and community activities and shopping centres.

Flexible Bus Service Canberra | Free bus service for the elderly and other people who have suffered a disability or mobility issue.

Snowy River Cooma Monaro Community Transport | Provides transport for health, disadvantaged, frail aged, disabled residents and their carers of the Snowy River and Cooma-Monaro Shire.


Conversations at 4Cs provides adult individuals with support to cope with life’s challenges, changes and crises. This service is free of charge and operates Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays.

EveryMan works with men through tough times, for change that matters. Using a range of therapies, resources and specialist programs. This is a free and confidential service for every man.

Menslink supports young men between the ages of 12-25 in Canberra. This is a free confidential service that offers mentoring and counselling.

Legal Supports

ACT Public Advocate  The role of the Public Advocate is to protect and promote the rights and interests of anyone in the ACT who is experiencing vulnerability.

Make Your Own Will online through the ACT Public Trustee and Guardian

Consumer Law Centre  a free, independent, community legal centre funded by the ACT Government, to help people on a low to moderate income who are experiencing financial difficulties.

Legal Advice Bureau  If you have a legal problem and you don’t know what to do, why not make an appointment to discuss it free of charge with a member of the Law Society.

Legal Aid ACT  Helps people in the ACT with their legal problems, especially people who are socially or economically disadvantaged.

The Women’s Legal Centre ACT is a specialist legal service based in Canberra, providing legal and non-legal support to Canberra’s most vulnerable women.

Canberra Community Law (formerly Welfare Rights and Legal Centre) is a community legal centre providing legal services to people on low incomes or facing other disadvantage in Canberra and its region.
