For carers – disability parking and taxi subsidy scheme
Two important updates for our carer community.
Australian Disability Parking Permit
Families and carers of ACT residents who need support with walking safely due to cognitive or behavioural needs are now eligible to apply for an Australian Disability Parking Permit.
The expanded criteria will enable medical practitioners to support an application in circumstances where a person you care for has cognitive, behavioural or neurological needs that prevent them walking safely without the continuous support of a family member, carer or support person.
More information about the Australian Disability Parking Permit, including an application form for ACT residents, is available on the Access Canberra Website.
ACT Taxi Subsidy Scheme
The ACT Taxi Subsidy Scheme (TSS) provides financial assistance to ACT residents with disability or people with significant mobility restriction which prevents them from using public and community transport. The TSS is intended to assist Canberrans, and their carers, to attend essential activities such as medical appointments, other commitments, and social and family gatherings.
From 1 July 2023, the Government increased the TSS trip allocation to a maximum of 854 trips per financial year (previously 126 trips). The subsidy amount per trip will also increase and the TSS cap will be raised by 15%. There will no longer be a requirement to apply for additional trips.
For further information, eligibility, and the application form, go HERE or contact the TSS office via telephone on (02) 6207 0028 – and select option 5, or email concessions@act.gov.au.
