People can have experiences that have lasting effects on their wellbeing and those around them.
Presented by Nicola Palfrey, this session will help family and friend carers understand trauma, how it can have a lifelong impact, how to recognise the signs and provide effective support.
Participants who attend will learn:
What is trauma?
What does trauma look like in different ages?
How can I help them? Am I expecting too much?
How does trauma impact me?
Please note: This will be a safe place for participants. We will not be exploring individual stories of trauma nor discussing the specific services available in the mental health system. Our focus will be on recovery and how best to support those we care for
About our presenter: Nicola Palfrey is a Clinical Psychologist and the Director of the Australian Child and Adolescent Trauma, Grief & Loss Network at the ANU. She works with people who have experienced trauma and adversity and develops and delivers programs on trauma and adversity for families and the health profession.
