The Mental Health Act: Understanding your rights, and the rights and decisions of the person you care for

Please be aware, there is another session on Wednesday 19 September. 

This workshop is for carers of people with mental illness and psychosocial disability who do, or may have, contact with ACT mental health impatient services.
The aim of the workshop is to improve carers understanding of their rights, and those of the person they care within the context of the ACT Mental Health Act (2015). Carers will have the opportunity to learn about the principles of the Act which support the rights of carers, and the tools which support the rights and decisions of the person they care for.
The workshop facilitator is Jenny Adams from ACT Mental Health Consumer Network. Jenny was the lead in developing the ‘My Rights, My Decisions’ For Kit which is designed to support mental health consumers to let their views and wishes be known in advance, when they have decision making capacity.
Jenny will discuss important elements of the Form Kit, in particular rights and decisions in relation to:

Nominated person
Advance Agreement
Advanced Consent Direction
