Come and hear a dual presentation by Community Connections Inc. Community Connections will be speaking about their ‘My Choice My Support Programm and their Homeshare Service.’
My Choice My Support Inc., is a new not-for-profit organisation recently established by Community Connections in 2016. It has been formed out of a need identified by Community Connections service users, following the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). A different model of support is offered to ensure NDIS participants receive consistent support from workers on behalf of people with disabilities or their families. This service is intended to provide the kind of flexibility, control and improved relationships that people enjoy when they directly employ their own staff, but takes away much of the administration workload that accompanies such arrangements.
Homeshare was launched in 2013 in the ACT and its aim is to match people with a disability who need some simple in home support with somebody willing to provide that support. They seek compatible person to move in as a ‘Homesharer’, who provides you with some hours per week of free support in exchange for free rent or below market rent accommodation. Community Connections manage the process and work with you from start to finish. They have made over 50 homshare matches in Canberra so far and currently benefit from some ACT Government funding allowing the programm to be offered free of charge to the end users.
