Run over 5 session, this program is designed for carers of family and friends living with mental illness, being particularly beneficial in the early stages of this role.
The group setting and facilitation by an experienced counselor enables carers to build relationships and to interact with other carers in similar situations, reducing isolation.
These sessions will explore stress and it’s effects, with the introduction of a series of strategies to help manage this impact of the caring role. It also looks at communication of boundaries and how to establish them in the context of mental illness.
There will be several guest speakers from local services to assist build knowledge about mental health services in the region, including drug and alcohol programs, helping carers link into community supports and resources.
