This is a program is designed for carers of family and friends living with mental illness, particularly for those who are new to the role.
It is facilitated by a counsellor and run in a group format, which enables carers to build relationships and to interact with other carers in similar situations..
Keeping Families Connected explores stress and its effects, with the introduction of a series of strategies to help manage this impact of the caring role. It also looks at communication of boundaries and how to establish them in the context of mental illness. The program has several guest speakers from local services to build knowledge about mental health services in the region, including drug and alcohol programs, helping carers link into community supports and resources.
