This 4 week program is designed for Carers of people living with mental illness, being particularly beneficial in the early stages of this role. It is facilitated by a counsellor and run in a group format, which enables carers to build relationships and to interact with other carers in similar situations, reducing isolation.
Keeping Families Connected explores stress and its effects, with the introduction of strategies to help reduce the impact of the caring role. It also looks at communication of boundaries and how to establish them in the context of mental illness. The program has several guest speakers from local services to build knowledge about mental health services in the region, helping carers link into community supports and resources.
