Carer Cake and Chat: Driving in Later Life

May 20 @ 10:30 am - 12:00 pm AEST

In this weeks Carer Cake and Chat we’re talking about driving in later life with Occupational Therapist, Amy Nussio.

Getting out and about and doing the things you value is really important to your overall wellbeing. Being able to drive is one way that assists with this.

However as we age, we need consider our ‘fitness’ as a driver. Driving is a complex task involving good vision and spatial, awareness, muscle strength, attention, judgement and quick responses/reactions.

As carers we can also be concerned about the fitness to drive of the person we care for, be they our spouse, partner or parent.

Amy will discuss road safety information and considerations for planning to retire from driving. She will provide an overview of alternate transport options available in Canberra and also speak about the CarFreeMe program that is currently being offered for free to people living with dementia in Canberra.
