‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’ is an introduction to five simple and effective ways to improve our psychological and emotional health that are based on extensive international research. A healthy mind is just as important as a healthy body for our overall wellbeing. Like physical fitness, we can strengthen our psychological health in lots of small day-to-day ways. This will help us live a happier and a longer life as well as help us to cope with stress.

Evidence for 5 Ways to Wellbeing, draws on some of the best available international research about mental wellbeing through life. It synthesised research from 400 international scientists and explored the challenges for improving mental wellbeing of the whole population.
North West Area Mental Health Service, a part of the Royal Melbourne Hospital, together with local organisations, reviewed this evidence in the Australian context and local supporting research evidence. The evidence established that each of the 5 ways has been shown to improve personal sense of wellbeing across the life span and regardless of starting point in mental health.
Human beings require social connection to be psychologically healthy. Our relationships with others contribute to feelings of happiness, security, belonging and self-worth.
