Carers ACT welcomes Cain Beckett as new CEO
Carers ACT is pleased to announce the appointment of Cain Beckett as its new Chief Executive Officer, commencing 28 April 2025.
Cain brings almost 30 years of experience across government, business and the community sector, with a deep commitment to supporting people with disability and the carers who care for them. He has been a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors for more than 15 years and currently serves on the boards of Aruma Disability Services, Attain HealthTech and AbilityMade. He is also a former non-executive director of Life Without Barriers, The Summer Foundation, Cerebral Palsy Alliance, and former Chair of the NSW Disability Council.
Cain has lived experience of disability and has worked closely with carers and families throughout his career. He was the inaugural head of Markets and Pricing at the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), where he helped design approaches for pricing, safeguards and market regulation. He later played a key role in the establishment of the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability, serving as Special Advisor and head of Strategy.
Carers ACT Board Chair Thilini Perera said Cain’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the organisation. “Cain brings a strong understanding of the systems that impact carers, as well as a deep personal connection to our purpose. His experience across the disability and health sectors, along with his work in government and policy, makes him well placed to lead Carers ACT into the future.”
Mr Beckett said he is looking forward to working alongside carers, staff and the broader community. “I feel very privileged to step into this role. I’ve seen first-hand the vital work that carers do, and I’m passionate about ensuring they are recognised, supported and heard. Carers ACT has a strong foundation and I’m looking forward to listening and learning as we continue to build on that together.”
The Board extends its sincere thanks to outgoing CEO Lisa Kelly for her years of service and dedication to carers across the ACT. The Board also thanks Ann Smith for her steady guidance and support as Interim CEO during the transition.
