08/01/2025: Carers ACT has today announced the resignation of Lisa Kelly, who will be stepping down as CEO in March after nine years of dedicated service to the organisation.

Thilini Perera, Chair of Carers ACT, acknowledged Lisa’s significant contributions during her tenure and wished her well for the future.

“Since joining Carers ACT in 2017, Lisa has been a visionary and energetic CEO and colleague, steering our organisation through extreme challenges such as COVID-19 while enabling unprecedented growth,” Ms Perera said.

“Under Lisa’s leadership, Carers ACT has achieved many notable milestones. On a strategic level, Lisa has been instrumental in driving the ACT Carer Strategy, the Carer Recognition Act, and positive outcomes for carers at the recent 2024 ACT election. Lisa has implemented key programs like the Carer Gateway, Post Hospital Support Program and Staying at Home dementia care program. Her contribution to the national superannuation campaign and the National Carer Strategy, and her advocacy at a local and national level, helped ensure carers’ voices were consistently heard and valued.

“Lisa’s work has not only delivered significant growth in programs and services, providing critical support to carers across the ACT, but has also set up both the organisation and carers for a brighter future. The Board and I congratulate Lisa on these remarkable achievements and thank her for her dedication to ensuring carers are recognised, seen, valued, and supported. We look forward to working with Lisa over the next few months while we search for a new CEO.”

The Board of Carers ACT will begin recruiting a new CEO immediately, and Ms Kelly will remain with the organisation until March to ensure a smooth transition.

Reflecting on her time at Carers ACT, Lisa Kelly shared her passion for carers and the impact the organisation continues to achieve.

“It has been an honour to lead Carers ACT and work alongside driven and dedicated individuals who are committed to supporting carers. I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved together. We have expanded programs, embedded strategies to ensure carers’ recognition, and strengthened the foundations for a more supportive future for carers in the ACT,” Ms Kelly said.

“While it is bittersweet to leave this role, I am excited to begin a new chapter and continue contributing to the wellbeing of our community.”

All programs and services provided by Carers ACT will continue to operate seamlessly during this transition process. The organisation remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting carers and providing the vital assistance they need across the region.
