We are very proud to announce that our disability day program was named a finalist at the recent 2017 ACT Chief Minister’s Inclusion Awards for excellence in inclusion.
The program is a community access and living skills program for young adults up to the age of 40 years who are living with mild to moderate intellectual and physical disabilities (the members). The program runs from 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday and started in January 2017 following a needs analysis.
The program focus is on developing independent living skills through engagement of members in the community and a broad schedule of activities centered around active healthy lifestyles
The program has been built to specifically identify and build on the members’ interests and passions whilst also developing group and social interaction skills. At the foundation of the program is the desire to support the member to be as independent as possible both within the home and within the community. One of the key focus points of the program is to build a more inclusive community through exposure and positive interactions which display talent and ability of the members. Program members are engaged in daily living activities for at least four hours a day. At other times they are developing life skills and entrepreneurial abilities.
